Croatia has booked their place in the Davis Cup by Rakuten Final 8 after Italy claimed the first point off Sweden in the final group match on Sunday.

Croatia beat Argentina 3-0 at the Unipol Arena in Bologna on Saturday which meant they could only be edged out of the Final 8 if Sweden were to beat Italy today 3-0 which they have failed to do after Matteo Berrettini beat Elias Ymer in the opening match.

On Saturday, Borna Gojo, who is ranked 164th in the world, gave Croatia a 1-0 in the crucial match against Argentina when he beat world no. 37 Sebastián Báez in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Borna Ćorić then stretched Croatia’s lead to 2-0 when he beat Cerundolo, Francisco in straight sets.

Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić then made it 3-0 for Croatia when they defeated Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Zeballos in the doubles 6-2, 7-5.

Croatia, who were missing Marin Čilić through injury, beat Sweden (2-1) and lost to Italy (0-3) earlier in the week and finish second in Group A.

They will the winners of Group B in the quarterfinals, likely to be Spain.

The final phase of the competition, from the quarterfinals to the final, will be held from November 21 to 27 in Malaga.
