Croatia has bowed out to France 69-64 in the round of 16 at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Madrid on Saturday…
After starting well, Croatia trailed France at the end of first half by 2 points, before the French stretched their lead to 16 points in the third quarter. Croatia managed to claw the gap back to just 2 points in the final quarter thanks largely to centre Ante Tomić (17 points), who along with Brooklyn Nets new signing Bojan Bogdanović (27 points) were the pick of the Croatians, but could not do enough in the end coming up just short. Croatia had a chance to level the scores with an attack with seconds remaining, but a 3-point effort from Bogdanović could only hit the rim and pop out.
“We were not at our best this whole tournament. We have lost today to the European Champions which is not embarrassing at all. The 3rd quarter cost us at the end of the day,” Bogdanović said after the loss.
