Croatian fighter Ivana Širić Petrović has made history by becoming the first female fighter from Croatia to sign a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dnevnik.hr reported.
At just 28 years old, Širić Petrović is a talented athlete who has already made a name for herself in the MMA world. Her signing with the UFC is a significant milestone not just for her, but for women’s sports in Croatia as well.
Širić Petrović announced the exciting news on her official Instagram profile, where she posted a photo of herself wearing a UFC t-shirt with the caption, “Welcome to my new office. I signed and I’m ready. Let’s dance, ladies.”
Her fans and fellow fighters alike were thrilled by the news, congratulating her on social media and expressing their excitement for her upcoming fights.
Prior to signing with the UFC, Širić Petrović was the champion of the fly category in Ares FC, a well-known French organization. In September of last year, she won the title by defeating Alexandra Tekenah, and earlier this month, she defended the belt against Ewelina Wozniak, earning her sixth win in her professional career. Of her six wins, five have been achieved by stoppage, demonstrating her impressive power and skill in the ring.
While Širić Petrović’s signing with the UFC is certainly a personal triumph for her, it also marks a significant moment for women’s sports in Croatia. With her entry into the world’s most prestigious MMA organization, Širić Petrović is paving the way for future female athletes from Croatia to follow in her footsteps.
