Croatia in sport in 2020

30 December 2019 – There have been a lot of happy moments for Croatian sports fans over the years, and with Euro 2020 and the Olympic Games on next year, 2020 could be another big year.
Here are just some of the main highlights Croatian sports fans have to look forward to in 2020.
JANUARY
3rd -12th: ATP Cup – Tennis (Australia)
Borna Coric and Marin Cilic will represent Croatia at the inaugural ATP Cup. Croatia is in Group E along with Austria, Argentina and Poland and will play in Sydney.
10th – 26th: 2020 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship (Austria, Norway and Sweden)
Croatia will be hoping to improve on their bronze medal performance at the last Euro champs in 2016.
12th – 26th: European Water Polo Championships (Budapest)
Croatia won bronze at the 2018 European Champs and will be hoping to improve.
14th – 27th: Australian Open (Australia)
A number of Croatian tennis players will once again be playing in Melbourne this year.
MARCH
6th -7th: 2020 Davis Cup Finals playoff – Croatia v India (Zagreb)
Croatia faces India for a place at the Davis Cup Finals.
18th – 26th: Croatia to play two international friendlies in Euro 2020 build-up.
MAY
24th May – 7th June: French Open tennis – Roland Garros
Croatian players in actions on the clay courts of Roland Garros in the second Grand Slam of the year.
JUNE
1st: Croatia to play international friendly before Euro 2020
8th: Croatia to play final warm-up friendly ahead of Euro 2020
12th June – 12th July: Euro 2020
14th: Euro 2020 – England vs Croatia (Wembley, London 3 pm)
19th: Euro 2020 – Croatia vs Czech Republic (Hampden Park, Glasgow 6 pm)
23rd: Euro 2020 – Croatia vs Norway, Scotland, Serbia or Israel (Hampden Park, Glasgow 9 pm)
JULY
29th June -12th July: Wimbledon (UK)
24th July – 9th August: Olympic Games (Tokyo)
Croatia won 10 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze) at the last Olympics in Rio in 2016 and will be looking for more glory. Gold medal winners in 2016 were Josip Glasnovic (shooting), Sinkovic brothers (rowing), Sandra Perkovic (discus), Sime Fantela & Igor Marenic (sailing), Sara Kolak (javelin).
Damir Martin (rowing), Tonci Stipanovic (sailing) and the Croatia water polo team won silver medals, whilst Filip Hrgovic (boxing) and Blanka Vlasic (high jump) won bronze.
AUGUST
24th August – 13th September: US Open tennis
SEPTEMBER
UEFA Nations League – Croatia will play in the elite group. League draw will take place in Amsterdam on 3 March 2020 with group matches taking place in September, October and November 2020.
NOVEMBER
23rd – 29th: Davis Cup Finals (Madrid)
