Croatia is on track to do the double after making the final of the 2017 World Junior Water Polo Championships.
Croatia has beaten Hungary 6-4 on Saturday evening to book a place in tomorrow’s final.
Croatia has gone through the tournament unbeaten so far, topping Group B with wins over The Netherlands (11:3), Japan (14:10), Spain (6:5) and Montenegro (9:6). In yesterday’s quarterfinal, Croatia was too good for the USA (5:4).
“This is a big win against a big side. Tomorrow we are going for gold. Again our goalie Čubranić with some excellent saves was busy. I congratulate all the team who left their hearts in the pool today. Tomorrow we will try and repeat the result of the seniors,” Croatia’s coach Nikica Gulin said after the victory.
Croatia’s top scorers were Antonio Dužević and Rino Burić with two goals each, whilst Franko Lazić and Lovro Paparić also scored.
Croatia will meet the winner of the Serbia v Greece match in the final tomorrow night.
The 2017 World Junior Water Polo Championships is being held in Belgrade and the four semifinal teams were identical to those in the Men’s World Championships held in Budapest recently which Croatia won gold in.
