Croatia Loses Two Acting Greats on One Day

The 9th of October will be remembered for the passing of two of the greats of the Croatian film and TV industry…
Actress Ana Karić (pic above) passed away yesterday aged 73. Ana starred in a number of TV, film and theatre productions during her 50-year career, and appeared in notable films produced in Croatia and directed by directors such as Ante Babaja, Nikola Tanhofer, Zvonimir Berković, and Krsto Papić. She won a Golden Arena for Best Actress in 2012 for a starring role in Night Boats, a romantic drama film directed by Igor Mirković.
Thursday also saw the passing of another renowned actor and politician Boris Buzančić. Buzančić began acting at a very early age and went on to appeared in numerous films and TV shows. His specialty was playing roles of men with authority, especially in dramatic films dealing with World War II. However, one of his most memorable roles is witty Split mayor Dotur Vice in popular TV series Velo misto.
By a twist of fate, Buzančić became a mayor in real life in 1990. He was elected for mayor of Zagreb and held that post for two years, until being elected to Croatian Parliament in 1992. He died at the age of 85 after a long illness.
