ZAGREB, Feb 21 (Hina) – There are an estimated 5,500 tourist guides in Croatia, and their number is rising as these professionals who provide information on cultural, historical and contemporary heritage to people on organized tours and individual clients are important for the national tourist trade.
The head of the Croatian Tourist Guides Association, Kristina Nuic Prka, underscored the importance of tourist guides in her interview which Hina published on International Tourist Guide Day, observed on 21 February.
She said that it was difficult to determine the exact number of tourist guides in Croatia since some do this job full time and some are freelancing part time.
Although the tourist guiding qualification is specific to every country, Nuica Prka says that the association insists on compliance with the European EN15565:2008 as a European Standard for the Training and Qualification of Tourist Guides.
The association the acronym of which is ZDTVH has 19 members, and two more members are likely to join the association this year.
As usual, tourist guides are busiest in Croatia from April to November, and mainly along the Adriatic coast.
