Croatia’s Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic has paid his respects after the death yesterday of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
“In Croatia, she will especially be remembered by the resolute support, a full understanding and recognition of the role in the war, that in the nineties of the last century, was imposed on Croatia,” said Milanovic.
Thatcher was the longest British Prime Minister in Office and the first women elected to run the government of a Western power. The Iron Lady, as she was known, visited Croatia in 1998 when President at the time Franjo Tudjman awarded her with one of Croatia’s highest state decorations. She was also made an honorary citizen of Zagreb. She died of a stroke on Monday aged 87.
