Croatia has opened its account at the European Basketball Championships in Slovenia with a nail-biting 77-76 victory over Georgia.
Croatia, who were convincingly beaten by Spain in their opening encounter, needed a Ante Tomic layup with less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock to get past the spirited Georgians on Thursday. Croatia’s leading scorer was their American-born point guard Dontaye Draper with 16 points. for a one-point Georgia went into the last 10 seconds of the match with a one point lead after Viktor Sanikidze nailed a 3-pointer, but Antic came to the rescue for the Croats with the winning basket just before the buzzer.
