The Croatia U-21 football side has taken a huge step towards qualifying for the 2015 European Championships in the Czech Republic with a 2:0 away win over group rivals Switzerland in Lugano on Monday.
After 4 rounds Niko Kovač’s side, with brother Robert as his assistant, remain uneaten and are on track to qualify for the prestigious tournament in the summer of 2015. Dinamo Zagreb’s Marcelo Brozović was the star of the show for the Croatians, scoring both goals. Whilst Kovač’s former Croatian team-mate Igor Stimac is facing heavy criticism in the press in Croatia for his performance in charge of the full national team, the former Bayern Munich and Croatia captain has been praised since taking over the U-21 team just a few months ago. Kovač, who is being groomed by the Croatian FA to take over the national team one day, remains unbeaten with a maximum of 12 points. Croatia’s next match is the home leg against Switzerland on 14 November.
