FIFA has decided that Croatia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying UEFA Group I match against Kosovo will be completed this afternoon after a meeting was held on Sunday morning.
A waterlogged pitch caused the match to be abandoned after just 22 minutes of play on Saturday evening with the score locked at 0-0.
According to FIFA rules, the match will restart from the 22nd-minute mark, with the same players on the pitch on Sunday 3 September at 2:30 pm.
No tickets will be sold for the match and fans can use tickets from last night to enter the stadium. Fans with tickets who are unable to attend on Sunday will be able to get a refund.
Heavy rain fell all day in the Croatian capital, leaving the Maksimir Stadium pitch waterlogged. Officials decided that the match would start but it became apparent early on that a normal game of football was not possible as the ball was getting stuck in large puddles of water on the pitch.
The players were taken off the pitch after around 22 minutes for a 10-minute break as officials made a final decision.
