The 2017 ASB Classic is a tennis tournament which celebrated its 32nd edition, for women competitions, from the second of January until the seventh. The matches took place in Auckland, New Zealand.
Croatian tennis player Ana Konjuh, who went into the tournament ranked 47th in the world, produced a great performance at the women singles’ competition this year.
Konjuh qualified for the semifinals, after she defeated Japan’s Naomi Osaka, in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, she beat Germany’s Julia Görges, by 2-1 (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), a victory that qualified her to the championship’s final match.
In the final she played against US’s Lauren Davis.
Davis defeated Konjuh by 2-0 (6-3, 6-1), thus Davis snatched the championship’s title from Konjuh, and the Croatian champion became the tournament’s runner-up.
Konjuh’s world ranking has now jumped to 36th as she prepares for the first Grand Slam of the year – the Australian Open.
