Croatian Astrophysicist Awarded €1.5M to Study the Black Hole

Young Croatian astrophysicist Vernesa Smolčić has been granted 1.5 million euros by a research council to study the ‘Black Hole’.
Smolčić, who has for the past five years been studying the development of supermassive black holes and star formation in galaxies through cosmic time, was awarded the grant by the European Research Council, which funds only exceptional projects. Smolčić graduated from the Faculty of Science, and for ten years has studied and researched in some of the best places in the world such as the Max Planck Institute, Princeton, Caltech, before returning this year returned to the Department of Science in Zagreb where she wants to build a center of excellence in astrophysics.
