ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) – The players and coaches of Croatia’s national basketball team have collected two million kuna as a donation for the quake-damaged maternity hospital in Zagreb’s Petrova Street, the national basketball federation (HKS) reported on its website.
The players and the HKS officials said that they would like to provide assistance to the healthcare sector as the most sensitive part of the society in these times marked by the spread of the coronavirus infection and the consequences of the 22 March quakes which took one life and caused extensive damage to buildings in the centre of Zagreb.
Many current and former basketball players have joined in this initiative.
“We launched this action with the hope that we will help in the fight against the coronavirus, as well as with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Petro Hospital building, as well as with the procurement of the necessary apparatus, medicines, or everything that the expert assesses to be primary. Although we are not physically together at the moment, our hearts are in the same place – with Croatia and Zagreb,” said the players and management of the national team.
The Croatian football team and management this week donated 4.2 million kuna also to help Zagreb after the earthquake and to help in the fight against the coronavirus.
