Croatian Cultural Association of Geelong, Australia Presents the Easter Cooking Class
by the Croatian Cultural Association
The Croatian Cultural Association CAS (CCA) was established in 2004 in Geelong in Victoria, Australia, with the vision to honour its culture by preserving its heritage within the wider community.
The Association was created to honour our great-grandmothers, grandmothers, and mothers who on the other side of the world in foreign lands, continued to teach, nurture and preserve the Croatian customs, cuisine and traditions.
On Tuesday 12 March 2024 our traditional Easter cooking presentation was held at the Croatian Community Centre in Geelong.
Special thanks to our presenter – Katica Perinac, who enticed the audience with her cooking of: pileći saft (Chicken casserole) and štrudla od sira (cheese strudel).
On behalf of the Association, we express our gratitude to Katica for all the preparation she put in beforehand and on the evening in making this Easter Class a great success.
Beautiful Easter display was created by Alma Špiranović.
Traditionally the Croatian Cultural Association also has activities for the children, and we would like thank Michelle Butković who took time out to assist the children with the Easter activities.
Many members of the Croatian and wider community attended the cooking presentation.
Everyone was able to taste the dishes and the dessert that was demonstrated on the evening. A step by step recipe was provided to everyone to take home on the evening.
Our amazing photographers Courtney Vodopić and Lauren Akmačić captured the precious moments of the evening. We thank them sincerely for volunteering their time and expertise.
This year we introduced a Easter raffle which was a huge success and was coordinated by Mara Šimić.
Sponsors of the raffle were:
Celebrations – Steve Najda
Nutrimetics: Lil Radojević
Lorraine Lee – Julia Knežević
IGA Hughes Street – Kim
Geelong Flower Boutique – Maria Hegeysi
We sincerely would like to thank all of those who assisted on the evening in the kitchen by serving the food and cleaning up: Sonja Akmačić, Amelia Špiranović, Lauren Akmačić and Vesna Grgić.
On the evening 17 new members joined our Association and we would like to thank our diligent secretary Jadra Kolic for her impeccable work.
The Croatian Cultural Association wants to continue to preserve the Croatian heritage by holding cooking presentations and this way engage younger generations and all of us to replicate these amazing and tasty meals for centuries to come.
As a result of many of these cooking presentation since 2004 the Association has been actively involved with various functions and projects such as: the My Mother’s Kitchen / Kuhinja moje majke’ cookbook, which was launched in 2019, food festivals, fundraising events, and many more special occasions.
A huge thank you to the Croatian Community Centre of Geelong who continually support the CCA with all their events.
