The Croatian Football Federation have sent European football’s governing body UEFA its candidates as hosts of the U-19 European Championships in 2018…
Croatian FA President Davor Šuker told media on Wednesday that the northern Adriatic coastal cities of Rijeka and Pula have been put forward by the federation as candidates to host the European Championships in 4 years time.
“We sent an application for Rijeka and Pula to be hosts of the UEFA U-19 European Championships in 2018. We hope that we will be hosts,” Šuker said, adding that the Croatian FA has also donated 1 million euros to the Rijeka football club to help them build a training centre.
UEFA will announce in January 2015 who has won the hosting rights for the tournament.
“It would be a huge thing for Croatian football if we were to host the tournament. We gave it our maximum with the application and we believe we fulfil all of UEFA’s requirements. We know that there is strong competition, but we have reasons to be believe in a positive outcome,” said the FA’s technical director Romeo Jozak. (pic: Rijeka’s proposed new stadium)
