Croatia’s most famous family Christmas lights display will open this year in two weeks time with a record number of lights.
For the last 16 Christmases in a row, the Salaj family home in Grabovnica near the central Croatian town of Čazma has been a major attraction for locals and tourists.
This year the Salaj family are preparing a record when 2.5 million lights are switched on when the Salajland theme park opens on 1 December 2017. It will remain open to the public until 14 January 2018.
It all started back in 2001 when the Salaj family started their Božićna Priča Christmas Tale – Salajland theme park when they decorated houses, trees, and bridges over the ponds with an array of various Christmas lights.
The lights create a wonderful, fairytale ambiance, and have developed a large following with visitors coming from all over the country to see the display over the festive period.
Last Christmas 2 million bulbs were used to light up Salajland, and this year they will go one step further with a record 2.5 million bulbs, says Index.
Set up of the Christmas theme park started in September with 120,000 visitors from Croatia and Europe expected to visit this year and enjoy strolling along the walkway, the skating rink, crafts and homemade products in the Advent Village, fireworks, rich gastronomic offerings and activities for the kids.
Salajland will be open from 15:00 to 21:00 for visitors every day from 1 December – 14 January.
