ZAGREB, 22 September 2020 – The Croatian Football Federation is organising the second international tournament “Vlatko Markovic” for football players under 16 with eight national teams taking part from 23 to 27 September in Osijek.
Croatia, Qatar, Montenegro, and Bulgaria will play in Group A, while Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Zambia, and Northern Macedonia will play in Group B.
The tournament is organised with the support of FIFA’s Forward program and is named after one of the most prominent people in the modern history of Croatian football – former player, coach, administrator, and honorary president of the Croatian Football Federation Vlatko Markovic, who led the federation from 1998 to 2012.
The tournament starts on the 7th anniversary of Markovic’s death on September 23rd.
“This is another opportunity to remember Vlatko Markovic who left a big mark in Croatian football while paying special attention to the development of young players. We are proud to be able to organise such a tournament in his honour because it shows that Croatian football’s priority is to invest in young people and their progress,” said the president of the Croatian Football Federation Davor Suker.
