Croatian Idea Helping Change the World

Prince Albert has welcomed the organiser of the largest underwater clean up in the world on the weekend in the Principality of Monaco, when the Global Underwater Awareness Association (GUWAA) launched their 2nd World Underwater Protection and Cleanup Day.

Founded by world record Croatian diver Kristijan Curavić, and supported by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, GUWAA’s mission is to focus on reducing the amount and impact of land-based litter and solid waste in the lakes, rivers, and seas as well as its ecological, economic, health, social and security impacts which irresponsible waste management can cause globally, and has already got some big names backing it on the global stage.

On Saturday an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the Most Participants in an Underwater Clean Up (Multiple Venues) took place with 60 countries participating. The participants cleaned seas, lakes, and rivers world-wide. Divers using scuba tanks and scuba equipment help cleaned all types of waste (plastic, car tires, batteries, glass, cans, rusty iron, textile etc.) from the sea, lake, and river beds.

“Today we have written history, we have created the biggest clean up in history, 1,000 divers cleaning up all over the world. The next event will be revolutionary, to involve the entire world,” said Curavić.

The event was organized by Curavić’s GUWAA in partnership with Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Bernie Ecclestone, and the Yacht Club of Monaco.
