Great recognition for the small Croatian island of Lošinj after it was named as one of three finalists in the annual UNWTO Award for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism, an award that has been presented by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) since 2003…
Lošinj made the finalist shortlist thanks to ‘The Fragrances and Tastes of Lošinj’, a tourism board project presenting Lošinj as an island of vitality. Lošinj are up against the Vienna Tourist Board and the Peru Tourism and Export Promotion Board in the final three in the category of Innovation in Public Policy and Governance. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 28 January at the World Tourism Fair in Madrid.
Being among the top 3 for concept tourism in the world is a massive success for Lošinj and great recognition for the local tourist boards. Based on the island’s tradition and activities conducted by various botanists, primarily Professor Ambroz Haračić thanks to whom Lošinj was declared a climatic health resort already in 1892, the Tourist Board of Mali Lošinj (DMO), in cooperation with the Town of Mali Lošinj and the Fragrant Island Garden, have been developing ‘Fragrances and Tastes of Lošinj’ since 2005.
