Croatian Jana Koščak becomes world junior heptathlon champion

ZAGREB, 30 Aug (Hina) – Young Croatian athlete Jana Koščak has won the gold medal in the women’s heptathlon at the World Junior Championships in Peru.

Jana won gold after accumulating 5,807 points after seven events and securing the title of world junior champion, the Croatian Athletics Federation said.

On the second day, Koščak’s results were: long jump – 5.97 m (840 points), javelin throw – 40.06 m (668 points), and 800 m run – 2:24.56 (763 points).

She entered the final event with a 40-point lead over the second-placed Swiss athlete Lucia Acklin, whom Koščak outscored by another 12 points, resulting in an overall difference of 52 points at the end.

Koščak’s gold is Croatia’s eighth gold medal at the World Junior Championships.

The silver medal was won by Acklin with 5,755 points, while the bronze went to Czech athlete Adela Tkačová with 5,601 points.
