Croatia has a knack of producing world-class tennis players, with this year’s ATP Star of Tomorrow winner Borna Ćorić the latest player destined for big things in the game. Ćorić however is not the only Borna to look out for….
On Tuesday 12-year-old Borna Devald won the prestigious and well-known Orange Bowl tournament in Florida. Devald took out the Orange Bowl, which is the strongest junior tournament in the world, in style yesterday, beating his Swedish opponent Ross Weibull convincingly in the final 6-1, 6-0 in under an hour.
“I am very happy to win this big title. You just have to look at the names of the past winners to see how important this is in the world of tennis. The final was easier than I expected. As the tournament went on I played better and more aggressive. Borna Ćorić wished me well before the match and I thank him for that, ” said Devald, who belongs to the Chromos Tennis Club in Zagreb.
Past winners of the tournament include Juan-Martin Del Potro, Tommy Haas and Magnus Norman, and Croatian rising star Ana Konjuh in 2012.
