Croatian olive oils win big in New York with 77 gold medals

Croatian extra virgin olive oils have once again impressed on the world stage, winning 77 gold medals at this year’s New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) – one of the most prestigious global contests in the industry, Kult Plave Kamenice writes.
This marks an exceptional year for Croatian producers, particularly those from Hvar, where success has been so strong that the Jelsa Tourist Board issued a special press release to celebrate their local winners.
Croatia sent 143 samples to the competition, and 97 of them were awarded gold or silver medals – a remarkable 68% success rate.
While Istrian producers tend to dominate in Italy’s Flos Olei guide, Dalmatian olive oil makers are increasingly turning to NYIOOC, recognising its strong international commercial impact.
Meanwhile, many of the country’s top award-winning producers focus on elite competitions in Italy that, although less publicised, are known for their rigorous standards.
Croatian olive oils from all regions continue to perform well across global competitions, and this year’s NYIOOC results are further proof of the country’s growing reputation for quality.
Among the top-performing producers were Avistria – whose strong showing helped place Croatia 13th globally, as well as notable names like Ivica Vlatković (Vodice), Aminess, Zlatna Šoltanka, Oleum Maris, and many more.
