Croatian parliament elections set for April

The elections will be held at polling stations across the Republic of Croatia on Wednesday, April 17, 2024

President Zoran Milanović has today announced the date for  Croatia’s parliamentary elections. 

Croatia usually goes to the polls on a Sunday, but this time for the first time ever they will be held on a Wednesday. 

“The elections will be held at polling stations across the Republic of Croatia on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and at polling stations in the headquarters of diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of Croatia on Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, 2024,” the statement read. 

The president has said that day will be a non-working day. 

“According to the Law on the election of representatives to the Croatian Parliament, Article 5, paragraph 3, the day of the election is a non-working day.

President Zoran Milanović also today issued a Decision to call for elections for members of the European Parliament from the Republic of Croatia. 

“According to the Decision to call for elections for members of the European Parliament from the Republic of Croatia, the elections at polling stations in the Republic of Croatia and in the headquarters of diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of Croatia will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024.”

Yesterday, the Croatian parliament was dissolved in anticipation of the upcoming  elections.

Current Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic’s center-right party, Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), along with its coalition allies, currently holds sway over 77 seats out of the 151 in Croatia’s single-chamber parliament, which was elected on July 5, 2020.
