The President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has participated in the World Congress of Angel Investors of the World Business Angels Investment Forum – WBAF 2019 in Istanbul.
President Grabar-Kitatović invited businesspeople to invest in Croatia and help young talented individuals with ideas that need support.
In her address, the President spoke of the changes that were made to improve the economic climate in Croatia and attract investments. “An idea in itself, without money, without support, remains merely an idea,” she said while pointing out that although Croatia has talented people, investments are needed. In this respect, the President called on “businesspeople to help these young people.”
President Grabar-Kitarović expressed satisfaction with the fact that more and more business incubators and start-ups are being established in Croatia. “I am very glad to hear this,” she said, adding that start-ups are “extremely important” for small and medium-sized entrepreneurship. The President referred to the example of Germany, where “small and medium-sized enterprises make up 90 percent of the backbone of the economy.”
President Grabar-Kitarović also highlighted the importance of global interconnectedness and the need for joint efforts, “because no one by themselves can achieve much in a global economy.” Using football as an example, she mentioned Croatia’s second-place finish at the World Cup, which came as a result of great effort, fellowship, love and enthusiasm for the Homeland.
