Croatian Railways Christens First of 44 Brand New Trains

Croatian Railways on Thursday launched into service the first of what will be a total of 44 brand, spanking new trains…
The first of the new Končar trains left the capital Zagreb for Koprivnica at 14:30 on Thursday with Prime Minister Zoran Milanović, Deputy Prime Minister Branko Grčić and CEO of Croatian Railways Dražen Ratković on board.
The new trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, have 210 seats with a total passenger capacity of 419, have ramps and doors built for those with disabilities, as well as a compartment for bicycles, WiFi, a GPS system which updates passengers, and a modern air conditioning system.
The first of the new trains will be used for the routes: Zagreb – Koprivnica / Zagreb – Sisak – Sunja. Electrical transport company Končar, who built the new trains, will deliver 44 in total to Croatian Railways over the next 3 years (16 for city routes, 16 for regional routes and 12 diesel-electric trains). The total cost of the trains is 1.63 billion kuna (205 million euros). (photo / Vlada)
