ZAGREB, 10 October 2019 – After last year’s successful event, Hrvatska uzdanica together with the Hrvatska matica iseljenika (Croatian Heritage Foundation) is once again organising an evening of fun, socialising and networking on Thursday, 7 November, 2019 at the 2nd ‘Večer hrvatskih povratnika’ (Croatian returnees dinner).
The main goal of the event is to promote the union of Croatians at home and abroad, and place a focus on people returning to Croatia not only leaving. It will be an opportunity to meet new people while enjoying a wonderful 4 course dinner and dancing the night away to live music and guest performers.
The dinner is being held under the auspice of the President of Croatia, Mrs. Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković and the Central State Office for Croats Abroad.
The initial idea came about during a coffee with friends (as all good ideas in Croatia do) who then contacted Hrvatska uzdanica, an organisation that has its roots in Australia, and the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the rest they say is history!
These dinners were once organised by a Croatian returnees society some 20 years ago however given that the society disbanded, the dinners stopped too. The dinners had been a great opportunity to meet other people who had returned to Croatia, to exchange experiences and offer solutions to returnee problems but also to just enjoy each other’s company and were a throwback to the ‘zabave’ dances we used to have in Croatian communities abroad.
