British portal The Telegraph has revealed its take on Europe’s most prettiest and ugliest seaside towns.
Among the destinations featured, a Croatian town features on both the prettiest and ugliest list.
Prettiest
The portal’s travel experts identified the prettiest seaside towns, including Collioure in France.
Other places on the list included Cefalù in Sicily, Comporta in Portugal, Llafranc in Spain, Sitia in Crete, Çıralı in Turkey, San Vicente de la Barquera in Spain, Nafplio in Greece, and Rovinj in Croatia.
Of Rovinj, they wrote: “Picture-perfect, with its alluring old town perched on a tiny peninsula, capped by a hilltop church, Rovinj has everything you need for a quintessential beach holiday – a dreamy fishing harbour rimmed by seafood restaurants, plus modern summery hotels and reliable watersports providers.”
Ugliest
On the other end of the spectrum, the list of the least attractive towns included Monaco and Ostia in Italy.
Also making the this list were Kemer in Turkey, La Línea de la Concepción in Spain, Laganas in Zante, and Ploče in Croatia.
Ploče, described as lying midway between Dubrovnik and Split on the scenic yet demanding coastal road, was singled out for its less-than-appealing characteristics.
“In reality, it’s a rundown port with a petrochemical terminal and grain silos, lying at the mouth of the River Neretva,” the article noted, pointing to its industrial and uninviting aesthetic.
