This year will be the second year that Croatia will not be taking part in the Eurovision song contest, but there still might be a Croatian signing on the night in at the in Vienna this May…
Vlatka Burić, from Samobor, is in the running to represent Switzerland at the 60th Eurovision contest.
“Since Croatia has not taken part in Eurovision for two years, we looked around where would we be able to apply, namely which countries allowed foreigners to take part in the competition and we found Switzerland,” Burić told Scena.hr.
Burić has collaborated with well-known songwriters Jud Friedman and Allan Rich, who wrote Whitney Houston’s ‘Run to you’. Friedman and Rich have penned “There with me” which Burić hopes will get her enough votes to win and represent Switzerland at the contest.
With Friedman and Rich behind her the Croatian singer has a good chance. Friedman has been nominated six times for an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe Award, and the dup have written songs for the likes of Toni Braxton, Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, LeAnn Rimes, and Barbara Streisand.
The organiser of the competition to find Croatia’s representative for Eurovision, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), decided that Croatia will take a break in 2014 and 2015, sighting ‘poor recent performances and costs involved’ as key factors in the decision. You can vote for Vlatka here (voting closes on 17 November).
