Croatians 6th for share spent on alcohol in EU

How much do households in Croatia spend on alcohol? According to date released this week from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, more than most countries in the EU.
Croatians are 6th in the EU when it comes to the share of total household expenditure spent on alcohol in the EU.
In top place with the highest share of total consumption expenditure on alcoholic beverages in 2021 was Latvia with 5.0%.
Estonia (4.7%) was in second place, followed by Poland (3.7%), Lithuania and Czechia (both 3.6%) and then Croatia (3.5%).
In 2021, households in the EU spent €128 billion on alcoholic beverages. This represents 1.8% of their total consumption expenditure, Eurostat said.
Croatia is well above the average with a 3.5% share going on alcoholic beverages and it is the only country which saw an increase from the previous year (+0.6 pp).
The lowest shares of spending on alcoholic beverages in total consumption were in Greece and Italy (both 1.0%), the Netherlands (1.3%) and Spain (1.4%).
Food and non-alcoholic beverages
When it came to share of spend on food and non-alcoholic beverages out of total household expenditure, Croatia was in 7th place with 19.5%.

Romania was no.1 (24.8%), followed by Lithuania (20.4%), Bulgaria (20.1%), Estonia (19.9%), Poland and Slovakia (both 19.6%).
