On Sunday, November 5th, the famous New York City Marathon took place again on the streets of New York.
Now in its 52nd year, the New York City Marathon is the largest in the world, with more than 50,000 participants from all corners of the globe.
Once again this year, among the runners could be seen the recognisable red and white checkered runners from Croatia.
One of them was Mario Brizanac, who was participating in his 3rd New York City Marathon, and who proudly represents Croatia. Mario was, as every year, enthusiastically cheered on by his wife Sandra, daughter Martina, and many friends and Croatians from New York.
“I have run marathons in several U.S. states, such as Miami in Florida, San Jose in California, and New Orleans in Louisiana, but nowhere is there such energy like in NYC, which gives you extra strength and a boost. Millions of people come out onto the streets and cheer you along the entire 42.2-kilometre route,” Mario, who has already qualified for next year’s event said, adding.
“t’s a special feeling when you spot Croatian flags in the distance on certain stretches, you run up to the group, family, and friends who, with their excitement and smiling faces, show you that every challenge like this is ultimately worth every effort.”
The New York City Marathon is A Platinum Label marathon and was the final of the of six World Marathon Majors events for the year.
