In a symbolic ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), successful Croatian entrepreneurs from North America activated the “Opening Bell,” officially commencing trading at the largest stock exchange in the United States.
This daily event in the heart of New York City, a global financial hub, is typically reserved for select major world brands from the financial sector. However, one extraordinary brand that has gained this prestigious privilege is Delmonico’s, a renowned American luxury restaurant with a nearly 200-year history.
Leading the new era for Delmonico’s is Dennis Turcinovic, who, representing the restaurant’s fresh team, rang the bell nine times to open a new trading day at the NYSE. This gesture marked not only a new trading day but also a significant chapter in the business history of this iconic gastronomic establishment in Manhattan.
Turcinovic, of Croatian origin, has assembled a Croatian team of professionals who have revitalized this beloved spot, reopening at its original address: 56 Beaver Street in the Financial District, Wall Street.
The core team behind the new Delmonico’s includes partner Joseph Licul, managing partner Darko Matošić from Rijeka, Branko Vinski from Karlovac as the head of the dining room, and the interior design was masterfully crafted by talented architect Sandro Užila from Poreč.
They all participated in the “Opening Bell” ceremony, accompanied by more than 70 guests who were delighted to support and partake in this momentous occasion, which signifies a new milestone for the American culinary scene of the modern era.
Adding to the intrigue, the new visual identity of the legendary Delmonico’s was conceived and produced by Mirko Ilić, a celebrated Croatian-American graphic designer known for his impactful work, including album covers for Prljavo kazalište, Aerodrom, and Bijelo dugme. Now, on the other side of the world, Ilić has designed and presented the Delmonico’s brand at the NYSE. Today, the same logo graces the American stock exchange.
Throughout history, regular guests at Delmonico’s have included the most famous global figures, from U.S. Presidents John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Theodore Roosevelt to Mark Twain, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and more recently, Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Whoopi Goldberg. This restaurant also has a significant connection to one of the greatest innovators from our region, as history tells us that Nikola Tesla was a frequent guest and his favorite dish was honored with a restaurant room bearing his name.
The Delmonico’s culinary story is equally captivating. As for the menu, the famed Ribeye Steak, named after the restaurant, will be a featured item, and the legendary Baked Alaska Dessert, as well as the globally renowned Eggs Benedict preparation, originated here.
The iconic Delmonico’s is currently accepting reservations, and an official opening announcement is expected for the fall of 2023.
