After a number of nationwide supermarket boycotts, Croatian consumers are now turning their attention to bakeries.
The platform Halo, inspektore has called for a one-day boycott of bakeries and stores selling baked goods in response to rising prices and shrinking product sizes.
The boycott is scheduled for Friday, 14 February, and aims to highlight dissatisfaction with the soaring costs of bread, burek, pastries, and doughnuts.
Organisers claim that not only have prices increased significantly over the past two years, but the weight and quality of many products have also decreased – a practice known as shrinkflation.
They also criticise retailers for not issuing receipts and accuse authorities of failing to act despite tax reductions on essential food items like bread, eggs, and oil.

The movement has received strong support from high school students, who first proposed the bakery boycott. Halo, inspektore is urging parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends to stand in solidarity with the youth and refrain from purchasing baked goods for the day.
With previous boycotts gaining traction, it remains to be seen how much impact this latest initiative will have.
