St. Michael’s Fortress in Šibenik proudly holds the flattering and well-deserved title of one of the most beautiful concert venues.
The unique blend of historical authenticity and location, combined with a spectacular view of the city and surrounding islands, contributes to its special charm, making it a favourite summer concert setting.
This year marks its 10th anniversary, and the past decade has seen a series of fantastic concerts across various music genres, as well as theatre performances, film screenings, and other cultural events.
The venue’s acoustics, the blend of old and new, and the beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea have served as a fantastic stage for numerous international and local artists.
Among the notable performers are Lorde, Bryan Ferry, Mario Biondi, Emeli Sandé, The National, Flogging Molly, Laibach, Oliver Dragojević, Maksim Mrvica, Gibonni, Jasna Zlokić, Arsen and Matija Dedić, Gabi Novak, Božo Vrećo, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, and many more.
The stage within the centuries-old walls has become a beloved Šibenik destination for both performers and audiences alike.
Celebrating the 10th Anniversary with Outstanding Musical Acts
The 10th anniversary of St. Michael’s Fortress will be marked by a series of brilliant concerts.
The summer music season opens on May 28th with the Canadian band BADBADNOTGOOD.
Their sound combines nostalgic and contemporary tones, and they are two-time Grammy winners who have collaborated with some of the biggest names in the hip-hop scene, including Wu-Tang Clan, Kendrick Lamar, and Mick Jenkins. BADBADNOTGOOD’s mix of jazz, hip-hop, and electronics will be introduced by Zagreb DJ Antonio Zuza, whose sound is based on disco and house foundations.
Another date to mark on your calendar is July 22nd, when Grammy winner Gregory Porter will grace the anniversary summer with his performance. The audience will be warmed up by DJ Maestro, the legendary Amsterdam ‘master of vinyl’, known for his Blue Note Trip compilations.
Mid-August is reserved for stars of the European electronic scene: on August 14th, Anders Trentemøller will arrive with his band to get the crowd dancing at the Fortress with some of his biggest remix hits of artists such as Pet Shop Boys, Franz Ferdinand, and The Knife.
We’ve highlighted just a few bands and performers, but the summer at this unique venue will bring many more excellent events.
Announced concerts include Vanna (June 27th), Vlatko Stefanovski and Miroslav Tadić (July 16th), Božo Vrećo (July 17th), Devendra Banhart (July 28th), Mariza (August 1st), Kruder & Dorfmeister (August 3rd), Tommy Emmanuel (August 8th), the band Pips, Chips & Videoclips with Letu Štuke (August 10th), and Silente (August 17th).
There is also the SHIP festival in September, and organizers promise more musical guests will be announced.
