A Black Hawk helicopter from the Croatian Air Force successfully transported a heart from Zadar to Zagreb for an urgent transplant.
This marks the second emergency medical transport of a transplant team and heart by the Croatian Air Force helicopter this week.
A flight crew from the 194th Multirole Helicopter Squadron, 91st Wing of the Croatian Air Force, was engaged on the afternoon of 7th September 2024, in an urgent medical transport operation.
The crew, flying a Black Hawk UH-60M helicopter, transported a transplant medical team and a heart from Zadar to Zagreb.
Upon receiving a request from the transplant coordinator at the Ministry of Health, the Croatian Air Force crew carried out the mission.
They took off in the early afternoon from Lučko Barracks, flew to Zadar, and then transported the team and heart to the helipad at Dubrava Clinical Hospital.
The heart transplant was successfully carried out at Zagreb University Hospital Centre (KBC Zagreb), led by its cardiothoracic surgery team.
Helicopter Crew: We Are Proud to Have Contributed to Saving a Life
“For the second time this week, the Croatian Air Force crew has completed a heart transport mission with the Black Hawk UH-60M. Alongside a four-member medical team that arrived at Lučko, we took off for Zadar at 1:30 p.m., where the medical team proceeded to perform the surgery while we remained on standby.
We landed at Dubrava Hospital’s helipad at 8:07 p.m. with the transplant team and organ, hoping that our transport once again contributed to saving a human life. These missions always leave us with a deep sense of fulfilment, pride, and happiness.
Now we’re heading for a rest, but another crew is already prepared to take on the task whenever needed,” said one of the Croatian Air Force crew members involved in today’s mission.
