Inspired by a friend who had two bicycles stolen, Zagreb mates Maja Pleša and Ivana Perišić have started a business in Croatia which is believed to be a first for the country – a parking garage for bikes…
Perišić and Pleša both chucked their jobs in at a marketing agency in the city, and on Friday will open LANAC za bicikle, Croatia’s first guarded garage for bicycles. Located in the centre of Zagreb (Obrtnički prolaz 1), bike riders will be able to leave their bikes in the closed garage for 2 kuna (0.26 euros) an hour. There will also be monthly rates with the space having a capacity to store 100 bikes.
According to a European Commission study, around 25% of people do not ride their bikes because of a fear that they will get stolen. The girls parking space will be open from 8:00-23:00 and will have a staff member full-time on site who will also offer a bike repair service. (pic: Facebook)
