Croatia’s largest book fair returns for 46th time

Interliber, Croatia’s largest book fair, will take place next week from 12 to 17 November at the Zagreb Velesajam.

This international event, now in its 46th consecutive year, will spotlight Hungary as this year’s featured country, according to statements made at today’s press conference.

As in previous years, entry to the fair is free, and parking around the Zagreb Velesajam area is also complimentary.

Zagreb’s Deputy Mayor, Luka Korlaet, expressed gratitude to the organisers for their efforts in managing such a large, complex, and demanding project, which boasts impressive figures and an exceptionally rich supporting programme.

“The cultural policy of this city administration prioritises consistent and stable investment in culture. Beyond developing its ‘software’, the city is also investing in its ‘hardware’: we currently have 43 libraries across the city, and we are in the process of constructing a new central library. This will be a modern facility with a diverse programme that will remain lively and engaging even outside of regular opening hours,” Korlaet remarked.

Renata Suša, Director of the Zagreb Velesajam, and Dina Grozdanović Poštolka, Head of Interliber, presented the detailed programme for this year’s fair.

More than 300 exhibitors from 14 countries will showcase their work to both Zagreb’s and Croatia’s public in pavilions 5, 6, 7, and 7a.

Anna Mladenovics from the Hungarian Cultural Centre expressed her hope that the tradition of dynamic publishing collaboration between Croatia and Hungary will continue well into the future.

Meanwhile, Slavko Kozina, President of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce’s Publishers and Booksellers Association, announced an array of new books and publications to be unveiled at Interliber, describing it as “the best showcase for books and authors.”
