Croatia’s presidential election – official list of candidates announced

Croatia to Hold Presidential Elections on 29th December

Croatia will hold it presidential elections later this month, and today the official list of candidates was announced.

The State Election Commission of Croatia said today that 8 candidates will be running in the presidential elections. Voting will take place on Sunday, 29th December.

The list of candidates is as follows:

1. MIRO BULJ – MOST

2. TOMISLAV JONJIĆ – INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE

3. IVANA KEKIN – MOŽEMO! – POLITIČKA PLATFORMA – MOŽEMO!

4. BRANKA LOZO – DOM I NACIONALNO OKUPLJANJE – DOMINO

5. ZORAN MILANOVIĆ – SOCIJALDEMOKRATSKA PARTIJA HRVATSKE – SDP NEZAVISNA PLATFORMA SJEVERA – NPS CENTAR HRVATSKA SELJAČKA STRANKA – HSS “DALIJA OREŠKOVIĆ I LJUDI S IMENOM I PREZIMENOM” – “DO i SIP” NARODNA STRANKA – REFORMISTI – REFORMISTI STRANKA UMIROVLJENIKA – SU BLOK UMIROVLJENICI ZAJEDNO – BUZ GRAĐANSKO-LIBERALNI SAVEZ – GLAS MEĐIMURSKI DEMOKRATSKI SAVEZ – MDS

Croatian citizens living abroad will also have the chance to vote, with polling stations set up in approximately 50 countries worldwide, compared to 47 in the last election.

The president is elected using a majority voting system, meaning a candidate must win more than half of the votes. If no one achieves this on 29th December, the top two candidates will face a runoff election two weeks later.

Since independence, Croatia has had five presidents: Franjo Tuđman (1992, 1997), Stipe Mesić (2000, 2005), Ivo Josipović (2009), Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (2014), and the current president, Zoran Milanović (2019).
