Promising teenage Croatian tennis star Borna Ćorić has recorded the win of his short career when he upset world number 21 Jerzy Janowicz in Croatia’s Davis Cup tie with Poland on Friday…
Ćorić’s 2:6, 6:2, 7:5, 5:7, 6:4 has given Croatia a 2-0 lead after the first day in the Davis Cup tie. The 17-year-old, who is a former US Open Junior champion, says that the victory has not really sunk in yet.
“I got a bit of cramp near the end of the match, but that is nothing. Physically I could have played another three sets. I am not aware yet what I have just done. I think it will sink in, in the morning. I first have to call my mum and sister, and then everyone else, ” said an excited Ćorić after the match.
Croatia’s Davis Cup coach Željko Krajan was quick to praise the Zagreb teen.
“I hoped Borna could threaten Janowicz, but to finish the match in that way, to go through all that and win a match that for the first time in his life he is playing five sets…I think that deserves respect. A star is born,” said Krajan.
