Davis Cup: Croatia takes lead over India

ZAGREB, 6 March 2020 – 22-year-old Borna Gojo and the experienced Marin Cilic have given Croatia a 2-0 lead over India after the opening day of their Davis Cup Play-off match in Zagreb on Friday.
Croatia and India are playing for a place in the 2020 Davis Cup Finals which will take place in Madrid later this year.
Croatia, who are missing the experienced Borna Coric and Ivan Dodig through injury, started the opening singles match with the promising Gojo against Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
The Indian, who is ranked 132nd in the world, was the favourite for the match against the 277th-ranked Croatian and he would take the opening set 6-3 thanks to one break of serve.
Gojo would break early in the second set and would hold on throughout the set to take it 6-4 and force a decider. Another early break by the Croatian would give him the set 6-3 and the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in just under two hours.

In the second match of the day, Marin Cilic needed two tie-breakers to beat Ramkumar Ramanathan 7-6, 7-6 in 2 hours and 11 minutes.
On Saturday, Mate Pavic and Franko Skugor will face Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes in the doubles tie before the reverse singles matches.
