Croatia will play Slovakia in the Davis Cup in Osijek from 31st January to 1st February 2025.

The Croatian team was welcomed at the Tennis Club Olimpija in Osijek this week ahead of the tie. They were greeted by representatives of the City of Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County, as well as young tennis players from the county. On this occasion, over two thousand tennis balls were distributed.

The President of the City Council of Osijek, Tihomir Florijančić, welcomed the tennis representatives to Osijek.

“Tickets for both days are sold out, and I believe the atmosphere will be excellent, and that you feel good. The City of Osijek is extremely proud to be a co-organiser of this event, which we sponsor with this hall and 20,000 euros in collaboration with Osijek-Baranja County,” said President Florijančić.

“Of course, it is a great pride and honour for us that the Davis Cup is being held in Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County for the fourth time. Today, we had the opportunity to meet with the youngest generations, those who are the future of tennis. Surely among them, we have future sports talents and successful tennis players,” added Member of Parliament Nataša Tramišak, expressing her wishes for much success to the representatives in the match against Slovakia and stating that she has no doubt about their victory.

“There was never any doubt that the hall would be sold out and that the atmosphere would be great. It is truly an honour and privilege to collaborate in the organisation with wonderful people in Osijek, from the city and county, through individual tennis clubs, as well as other tennis clubs throughout Slavonia, Baranja, and our beautiful country. Even though the hall is full, I still invite all Croatians to support and cheer for the Davis Cup team in this extremely important match, and of course, we always anticipate a positive outcome,” concluded Zdravko Marić, President of the Croatian Tennis Association.

Croatian team members, Mate Pavić and Nikola Mektić, as well as the Croatian Davis Cup team captain, Velimir Zovko, expressed their gratitude for the welcome in Osijek.

The Davis Cup Qualifier match between Croatia and Slovakia will take place at the Gradski Vrt hall in Osijek on 31st January and 1st February 2025.

This will be the fourth time a Davis Cup match is held in Osijek, and the third time in this venue.

The winner of this tie will advance to the second round in mid-September, joining 13 other Qualifier winners and the Netherlands, who have received a wildcard for that stage.

Seven winners from September, along with Italy as the defending champion, will compete in the finals in November, hosted by Italy. If Croatia triumphs over Slovakia, they will face the winner of the France vs. Brazil match in September, with Croatia again enjoying home advantage.

In their previous encounter, Croatia defeated Slovakia in the 2005 Davis Cup final in Bratislava, marking Croatia’s first Davis Cup title.
