Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo signed a new declaration to strengthen defence cooperation and enhance security in Southeast Europe.

The Declaration concerns cooperation in defence and security between Croatia and Albania, as NATO allies, and Kosovo.

It focuses on promoting stability and security in Southeast Europe, supporting the Euro-Atlantic path, and strengthening collaboration and alliance among the three friendly nations.

Response to Criticism

The agreement has faced criticism from Serbia, but Croatia’s Minister of Defence, Ivan Anušić, responded firmly, stating that Croatia is a sovereign country that makes its own decisions.

“The time when Croatia had to ask Belgrade for permission is long gone and will never return. We have been independent for 35 years and have experienced five years of aggression from a policy that promoted that kind of narrative.

Croatia will sign agreements with whoever it chooses. Cooperation with Albania and Kosovo focuses on knowledge exchange, defence industry collaboration, and supporting their Euro-Atlantic path,” Anušić stated on social media.

Thee Croatian Ministry of Defence said that due to significant public interest, it was publishing the Declaration, which was signed on 18 March 2025 in Tirana by the defence ministers of the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Albania, and the Republic of Kosovo.
