Digitized Works of Croatian Greats Now Accessible Online

A new internet portal, which allows searching and accessing digitized works of the champions of Croatian culture, science, arts, and public life, as well as works about their opuses written by other authors, has gone live.

Znameniti.hr features texts, images, and audio and video material originally placed in the digital collections/repositories of Croatian cultural, art and scientific institutions are also available on the portal.

The portal, which has both Croatian and English instructions, is supplemented by links to bibliographic data, among which we single out online encyclopedias and lexicons of the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography.

The portal currently has 6.511 digitized works of 35 Croatian culture, science, arts, and public life greats.

Instructions for use

Browsing or downloading the digital content is possible only in the repositories of these partner institutions accessible through the links placed on the portal.

Enter the first or last name of the eminent person or any other word from the metadata description of the digitized materials on the portal in the search box.

Clicking on the thumbnail on the right (e.g. title page, portrait, etc.) enables linking with the object in the digital collection or repository where the digitized materials are permanently stored; the objects can thus be viewed or downloaded.

The search results are displayed in two columns. In the left column, they are arranged in two groups of facets: Izvor zapisa (source record, i.e. institutions in whose repositories the requested data are stored), and Znameniti (list of eminent persons whose works are included in the portal). The digitized objects are displayed in the right column.

Clicking on one of the facets in the left column or entering any of the words from the metadata description into the search box on the right can refine the query.
