Dinamo Zagreb Maybe In Hot Water After Crowd Trouble Mars CL Qualifying Victory

Dinamo Zagreb will take a slender 1:0 lead to Moldova for the return leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier against FC Sheriff Tiraspol next week, after a 89th minute goal from substitute Ante Rukavina gave Kruno Jurcic’s side a narrow victory at Zagreb’s Maksimir stadium on Tuesday night.
The match, which was played with the east stand closed after UEFA sanctioned the club after racist chants in their last Champions League qualifier, will be remembered for Dinamo Zagreb’s complete dominance, and also for police having to also clear part of the north stand after racist chants continued to ring out around the stadium after numerous warnings over the ground’s PA system. The group of fans, targeting the clubs’ Chairman Zdravko Mamic, constantly chanted “Mamic, you gypsy” and “HNS (Croatian Football Federation), you f*ggots”.
How UEFA react we will have to wait and see, but after fining the club 25,000 EUR and closing one part of the ground because of last week’s similar antics, it may not be good news for the Croatian champions as UEFA have already threatened the club with expulsion from Europe.
