Donna Vekić cruises into last 16 at Australian Open

Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić continued her great form at the Australian Open on Saturday with another comfortable win to see her advance to the last 16.
In the 3rd round, Vekić defeated Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to reach the 4th round at the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Vekić raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set and only gave Diaz just two games to take the set 6-2. Vekić would win four games in a row in the second set to wrap up the match in just 64 minutes.

The Croatian will now face Czech Republic’s Linda Fruhvirtova for a place in the quarter-finals. Fruhvirtova is ranked 82nd in the world, whilst Vekić is ranked 68th.
Vekić has reached the last 16 once before at the Australian Open, back in 2021. Her best ever result at a Grand Slam was in 2019 at the US Open when she reached the quarter-finals.
Vekić, who is the only Croatian still remaining in the draw at the Australian Open, and will play her fourth round match against Fruhvirtova on Sunday.
