The popular southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik has hit the 2 million overnight stay number, one of the key indicators in tourism performance, eight days sooner than it did last year, its Mayor Andro Vlahušić and Tourist Board Director Romana Vlašić told a press conference…
Dubrovnik reached the 2 million overnight stay mark on 15 August, eight days ahead of when it achieved the milestone in 2013. Dubrovnik Tourist Board said that they expect that figure to grow to more than 3 million by the end of October. 561,000 tourists have visited Dubrovnik from 1 January till 16 August this year, up 13% from last year and confirming its status as the nations leading tourist destination. The largest number of foreign tourists this year have come from the UK, followed by France, Germany, USA, Croatia, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Australia and Russia. The Spanish, 14% more than last year, and the Australians and Russians (10% more), led the way in terms of growth.
Out of the total number of tourists, 42%, or 129,000 decided to stay in private accommodation whilst they were in Dubrovnik.
