Croatians and their friends living in New York and the surrounding area gathered at the Istra Sports Club restaurant in Astoria NY last Saturday for an event promoting Croatia, Croatian wines, food, art and various domestic products and Croatian crafts.
The successful event was organised by the hard-working and proud Croatian and Istrian, Tatjana Bistre, who is herself a member of the Istra Sports Club.
The purpose of the event was to present local Croatian entrepreneurs and Croatian companies to the public in order to help them further advertise and sell their products.
With Croatian wines (Winesa, Tomić winery and olive oil and Croatian Premium Wine Import) and music by Zvonimir Antolos, the experience was particularly cheerful and interesting.
The excellent chefs of the restaurant of the Istra Sports Club worked hard to make good local food like black cuttlefish risotto, stuffed peppers, sarma, fuži, goulash with gnocchi, pršut, cheese and pancakes. The excellent waiters made sure to make it feel like guests were at home in a konoba.
Istra Sports Club was founded back in 1959 and was and still is a gathering place for Istrians from New York, and their restaurant serves good local food. People go there to enjoy Istrian and Croatian specialties and to socialise with music, playing cards, briškula and tresete, and in the yard under the slope they play bocce. That’s why everyone likes to come to Istra Sports Club.
The organizer of the event, Tatjana Bistre, stated that her motto has always been that Croats help Croats and thanked everyone who participated, especially the President of the Istra Sports Club, John Kenul, board member Susan Karlic, valuable member of the club Suzan Mujičić Runko, Tomislav Bistre, Nik Čolak and Ane Strazicic Rodriguez.
