Exploring Bjelovar-Bilogora: Nature, adventure, and traditional food

Whether you’re biking or hiking along scenic trails, or enjoying an adrenaline rush with quad biking, Bjelovar-Bilogora County offers something for every nature enthusiast.

Cycling

With 700 km of bike trails, Bjelovar-Bilogora County is ideal for cycling enthusiasts. The region offers routes through scenic, low-traffic areas, showcasing preserved nature, cultural heritage, and a favourable climate. Plans are underway to expand the bike infrastructure with a new 66 km path on an old railway line.

Cyclists can currently enjoy a variety of international, county, and local routes, all well-marked and equipped with rest areas and repair stations. The county is perfect for both recreational cycling and mountain biking, featuring a dense network of forest roads and paths.

Gravel biking, cycling on unpaved roads, is rapidly gaining popularity, and Bjelovar-Bilogora County offers excellent terrain for enthusiasts.

Hiking

With three nearby mountains the region is a great hiking destination in Croatia. One highlight is the Kamenitovac Mountain Lodge, perched at 242 meters with stunning views of the Bjelovar valley. 

From the lodge, visitors can enjoy the ‘Bilogora’ educational trail, a 250-meter wooden path designed for nature learning and outdoor education.

Don’t miss the “Prayer of the Forest” inscribed on wooden beams, guiding you from one informational plaque to another, where you will learn to identify various plants and discover many fascinating facts about nature.

For hiking enthusiasts, the current 11 km bypass trail starts and ends at the Kamenitovac Mountain Lodge, featuring four checkpoints. There are also two marked hiking trails: the 7.3 km ‘Bilogorska šetnica’ leading to the Orovac vineyards and Pohajdin well, and a 7 km trail from Bjelovar (Lug) to the lodge.

The Kamenitovac Mountain Lodge is open daily, offering a restaurant and overnight accommodations for hikers.

For adrenaline seekers, Bjelovar-Bilogora County offers thrilling quad biking, mountain biking, and motorcycling through forest trails. 

With all necessary safety measures in place, adventurers can explore the gentle slopes of Bilogora, Moslavačka Gora, and Papuk, along with the valleys of Česma and Ilova.
