It has been screening at cinemas across Croatia for just on one week, but the new hit Croatian comedy feature film Cowboys has already attracted international interest.
Cowboys Croatian production house Kabinet has started negotiations with one of the world’s biggest production companies – UK’s Working Title Films – for the rights to produce a remake of the film in English. Working Title Films is a British film production company, based in London and owned by Universal Studios. The company has produced a variety of award-winning films, such as The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Frost/Nixon, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Anna Karenina, United 93, Notting Hill, Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually and Johnny English Reborn.
Cowboys (Kauboji), which is directed by Tomislav Mrsic and based on an eponymous record-breaking theatre play written and directed by Sasa Anocic, is about theatre director Sasha returns from the big city to his home town where he is offered to re-start the neglected local theater. The problem is that the city does not have any actors. After they advertise auditions for a new show, five very interesting candidates show up. Their only common ground in the field of culture is the Western genre – so the director and his new ensemble decide to stage a Western.
