Fewest Number of Babies Born Since Records Kept in Croatia

For the last few years there has been a negative birth rate trend in Croatia, but last year it reached its peak, with the worst result since statistics were kept. Last year there were 39,596 babies born, whilst 52,427 people passed away. In the space of 12 months Croatia has lost the equivalent of a town the size of Trogir. In 2013 there were 39,939 births, whilst 50,386 people died.

More divorces, less marriages

Last year there were 19,329 marriages and 6,546 divorces, which continues the negative trend. Just two years ago there were 1,000 more marriages and over 1,000 fewer divorces in the year.
